App Design – Joblu Job Search App

The Joblu team’s goal for this project was to redesign the Joblu mobile app into an app that would cater to a new demographic vastly different from the initial one. From trying to target blue-collar workers, we were going to focus on digital native Gen-Z college graduates looking for their first job. This wide jump in demographics meant a whole new rebranding effort for the marketing site and mobile app.

Along with another designer and with inputs from stakeholders, we redesigned the logo, polished our tone and voice, and overhauled the brand guidelines. Leading the rebranding conversation was a little challenging for me, as it was my first time as the design lead for a project, but overall, having the branding exercises helped a lot in making sure everyone was on the same page on what the product is and where we were going with it.

Another challenge was the timeframe and amount of work to be done before we could launch the app. While working on Joblu, we were also working on client projects. With only two designers on board to work on the mobile app, web app, and marketing site, we talked to the stakeholders and agreed on the features the minimum viable product should have and concentrated on that first.

It took a little longer than expected, but I believe we were successful in creating a job search app that Gen Z candidates would find easy and fun to use.
